Feels Like a Steal: Citizens of Humanity’s Colorful Denim

Bold color is one of spring 2026’s loudest trends—we’ve saw it first as cool color-blocking on the runway (Jil Sander, Prada) then spun off to the street style set (from Vogue’s Chloe Malle to fashion fixture Jalil Johnson) where the season’s standout shades vied for attention: cobalt blue, royal purple, chartreuse, and cherry red.

Not one to typically stray from my roster of neutrals—or go all in on a head-to-toe color moment—I’ve been easing into the trend by way of colorful denim. Luckily, both the spring runways and contemporary brands have made the case. From Chloé’s lilac pastel jeans to pale pink pairs from Agolde’s collaboration with New York-based label Maria McManus, and even Slvrlake’s butter-yellow barrel legs (which I shamelessly pre-ordered months ago from Moda Operandi), the options are as varied as they are compelling.

Still, none feel quite as versatile as this beige mid-rise barrel jean from Citizens of Humanity—the perfect balance between bold and understated. With a relaxed yet refined fit, they anchor any transitional look, whether styled with a khaki trench, lightweight knit, and ballet flats—or with a billowy blouse, raffia tote, and open-toe sandals once temperatures rise. (Just be sure to keep your slouchy leather jacket on standby.)

And at under $300, they feel like the ultimate fashion steal—ticking off two of spring 2026’s biggest trends in one: directional denim and a subtle embrace of color. Consider it your cue to break out of neutrals—for now, at least.—Laura Lillian Jackson Nalle, contributing editor

Toteme’s Little Black Dress

Known for its effortlessly chic sensibility, Toteme bridges New York’s on-the-go attitude with Stockholm’s studied restraint—making it a go-to for the kind of essentials that work overtime in your wardrobe. This spring, it’s their little black dresses that caught my eye: clean, unfussy, and endlessly wearable. The appeal lies in its simplicity. Streamlined yet polished, it’s the kind of piece that moves seamlessly from day to night with infinite styling potential—worn with ballet flats and a sweater draped over the shoulders by day, then finished with a red lip and statement earrings for after hours. The pleated, swingy silhouette, with its subtle nod to CBK’s pared-back uniform, feels especially of the moment, and priced just under $300, making it a wardrobe investment without the splurge. Minimal, versatile, and quietly refined, it’s the kind of dress you’ll reach for on repeat. —Minty Mellon, shopping market editor

Merlette Lyra Pouch

Most of us know Merlette for its dresses: elegant and airy cotton styles that make stepping out in the summer heat not just tolerable, but downright enjoyable. On a recent visit to the brand’s New York City showroom, I discovered its edit of handbags—intricately beaded and sequined styles in an array of shades (black, navy, candy red, and daffodil yellow), all under $300. Their handcrafted charm caught my eye, and the embellished Lyra and Deco styles quickly stood out as two personal favorites. One for day, one for evening, both fitting companions for either scenario. I have a soft spot for decorative pouches, but Merlette’s only appear small in size: A phone tucks in neatly, along with a sundry of other personal necessities. If you wanted proof of its versatility—at the moment of publish—I have the Lyra pouch perched on my desk. Life’s too short to always carry a tote. —Talia Abbas, shopping director

Guest in Residence’s Relay Polo

Spring dressing is defined by thoughtful layers—and few brands balance practicality with polish quite like Gigi Hadid’s, Guest in Residence. I discovered the knitwear label at its launch in 2022, instantly drawn to its vibrant lineup of cashmere crewnecks and sporty striped polos. What makes Hadid’s designs so compelling is their balance: timeless yet trend-aware, luxurious yet still within reach. Several of the brand’s standout pieces surprisingly fall under-$300—like this Relay polo, which gets at the preppy-with-a-twist references we've been seeing on the runways (Prada, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent).

Lightweight but still substantial for a windy day, it’s tailor-made for in-between transitional dressing: worn over a crisp button-up now, styled solo underneath a trench on brisk morning commutes, or shrugged across bare shoulders later. Speaking of later—I can even see it tossed over a simple string bikini come peak summer. I love how the sleeves’ stipples and stripes subtly nod to the label’s rugby roots, while the saturated colorways—cobalt blue chief among them—feel distinctly of the moment. At $295, it’s the kind of polished, preppy staple that earns its place in the “feels like a steal” category—proof that exceptional style doesn’t require a four-figure price tag. —Laura Lillian Jackson Nalle, contributing editor

Valesque’s Nylon Satin Tote

There’s something appealing about a bag that embraces simplicity—no flashy hardware, no attention-seeking logo, just a sleek, inconspicuous design centered around quiet practicality. It’s exactly what draws me to Valesque’s leather-trimmed tote. Constructed from a durable satin nylon, it’s a bag that reveals its appeal over time rather than at first glance: Free from distracting frills and in a neutral color palette, it’s easy to style for everyday—with long thin straps that slip seamlessly over any coat. I particularly love the small size, featuring thoughtful compartments to keep my essentials (wallet, keys, phone, hand sanitizer, and lipstick) in order, though, I’d argue that nearly every single bag in their collectsion feels like a steal, priced around $265. Elevated and functional, it’s an accessible luxury perfect for moving between appointments, coffee runs, errands, and everything in between. Net-a-Porter recently began stocking the label, first founded in 2023 by Valeska Dütsch and Sophie Berianidze, and, let me tell you—the bags have moved quickly. (At the time of publishing, few appear to available on their own site). All to say, if you’re in the market for a new tote, don’t overthink this one—whose to say when they’ll be restocked next? —Andrea Zendejas, shopping market editor

Kallmeyer’s Striped Tees

There are many brands who set out to perfect the T-shirt. It’s not an easy mantle to take on—it’s one of fashion’s elusive white whales. How high should the neck sit? How boxy can you go without losing shape? Do you leave room for a tuck? (Preferably, yes.) While there’s much I desire from Kallmeyer, my first brush with the label came by way of its striped tees that exist in a rotating cast of colors that make for collectsor’s gold. Seeing them styled together in a Z-Boys-meets-Tribeca-mom kind of way rewired my brain a little: There’s a delicate balance between Parisian cliché and artful design, and founder Daniella treads it expertly. The Wynn is a personal favorite, for both layering under sweaters and wrapping around the waist. The sleeves are generous, but not too long or roomy; the collar sits neatly above the collarbone, without feeling restricting. Above all, it’s so soft. At $135 for the short sleeve, and $145 for the long, it’s a hair above what I might normally spend on a wardrobe basic… but it’s everything I want in a T-shirt and nothing I don’t. And for a slice of Daniella’s world, my parting line is clear: it feels like a total steal. —Talia Abbas, shopping director

Comme Si’s La Classica Shirt

You might be familiar with Comme Si’s most pleasing, colorful socks that launched the brand into the fashion sphere back in 2019. While the prices for these covetable but everyday staples inch towards the higher end of what the average consumer might be willing to spend on a humble basic, the shirting developed by the label sits at a price point that falls right under the $300 sweet spot. What sets these crisp button-down shirts apart from comparable high-street essentials labels is that they’re made in Italy from 100% Italian cotton poplin and finished with delicate mother of pearl buttons. Small but mighty details in both the design and construction, like the box pleat and back yoke of the shirt, make it a cut above the rest of your standard button-downs. The fit is generous; roomy in shape while still fitting true to the shoulder, but nothing you’d call oversize. It’s a cut that makes styling both tucked in or worn out achievable. My personal favorite of the lineup? The “Grecian” blue. To me it’s that perfect traditional blue you’d find in menswear tailoring, reminiscent of an old women’s shirt I once saw by The Row. It wouldn’t be Comme Si if the shirt didn’t come in a rainbow of hues, to suit various wardrobe needs, from classic white to maraschino cherry red and pale pinks. Sometimes I like to style mine back-to-front for a twist. —Madeline Fass, fashion market director
