Never one to shy away from a micro short, a lover of colorful cardigans (powder blue, baby pink, and butter yellow), and a poplin pant aficionado (I wear them year-round, from sun to snow), I consider myself the ultimate Dôen girl. So when I had the opportunity to visit the brand’s freshly opened Madison Avenue flagship in New York City last week, I was more than thrilled—borderline giddy. After the opening of their downtown Bleecker Street location, this move uptown feels like a natural evolution—bridging easygoing California elegance with a sense of East Coast prim and polish.
Dôen’s Spring Style Staples:
Designed with longtime collaborators Nickey Kehoe Interior Design, the new boutique is equal parts down-to-earth—think rustic wood floors, dressing rooms lined in delicate floral carpeting, and a palette of pale blue and emerald green—and quietly luxurious, with velvet ottomans, cabinets filled with antique curiosities, and accents of fringe and crystal pendant lighting. But the luminous backdrop wasn’t the only thing worth noting. Racks lined with signature Dôen staples were the real showstoppers—and the true reason for my visit—from elegant dresses in sumptuous satin and crisp poplin to silky, lace-trimmed separates and transitional outerwear in suede and structured canvas. The new flagship is also home to the brand’s 10th anniversary capsule collectsion. And the best part? Each piece lends itself to multiple styling moments—worn together for a head-to-toe Dôen look or mixed into a more pared-back wardrobe, as seen below.
Keep scrolling to discover the Dôen signatures I tried on—and ultimately took home. After all, there’s always room for one more.
Silky Separates & Sorbet Shades
Beyond its wear-with-everything dresses, Dôen’s silky, lace-trimmed separates are what first put the brand on the map. For spring and summer, the mini Iona short is the standout—often selling out instantly, with waitlists to match. Rendered in shades of sea-salt white, lime green, and peach, the leggy style lends itself to several key styling approaches. Here, I paired mine with a matching sleeveless sweater and a classic black kitten-heel pump (never overlook Dôen’s shoe selection, which often comes in under-$300). For a welcome contrast, I tied the brand’s Petra cardigan in powder blue over my shoulders. With balmy summer nights on the horizon, the look works in spades—especially in these delicious sorbet shades.
The Transitional Outfit Formula
Transitional dressing is no easy feat, but with a roster of Dôen signatures, the process feels all the more effortless—and undeniably elegant. Smart layering is the name of the game, and the brand’s sumptuous suede Hutton trench is pure luxury—and the ultimate topper. Styling-wise, it pairs perfectly with a billowy poplin skirt—Dôen’s Sebastiane midi, a seasonless standout—and a silky lace-trimmed top. To finish on a textural note, I turned to Dôen’s roomy raffia tote in rich chocolate brown—a stylish staple to carry through spring and summer. The result bridged the two seasons seamlessly.
A Dress for Every Occasion
I’ll admit, I’m not typically a dress person—I much prefer a matching skirt or pants set. That said, this powder-pink satin Dôen maxi has me reconsidering. It’s incredibly flattering—hugging in all the right places—and finished with sweet details like bow-front fastenings and delicate lace trim. For everyday wear, I styled it with the Petra cardigan in white, tied casually at the waist, and a pair of suede Mary Janes. With spring soirées already on the calendar, I’d imagine it works for just about every occasion—from garden weddings and date nights to even your nine-to-five.
The Dôen Staples
If you’re anything like me, it’s nearly impossible to step into a Dôen store and not leave with at least one of the brand’s signature staples. Two of my go-tos? The charming broderie-anglaise Henri blouse and the fringe-adorned Lavon pants in lustrous silk. To accommodate New York’s in-between weather, I paired the duo with a sturdy canvas jacket and, once again, the Petra cardigan in baby pink (perhaps my ultimate styling hack). With movement and texture topping my list of trends this season, the final look delivers on both—swishy, stylish, and entirely true to my somewhat-playful personal style.
Poplin Pants & a Touch of Raffia
An easy, breezy pair of white poplin pants is a must-have in any warm-weather capsule wardrobe. For spring, they pair effortlessly with transitional jackets and lightweight knitwear, while in summer, I reach for mine with a simple string bikini and thong sandals for the beach. Here, I slipped into Dôen’s eyelet-trimmed Lavona pair (an item I admittedly already own) with a butter-yellow jacquard-knit cardigan. The real star of the ensemble, however, is the brand’s newly launched striped raffia tote in forest green—it delivers the perfect dose of color and texture. I finished the look with the brand’s kitten-heel pumps for a touch of height.
Dôen Makes Jeans! (And Yes, They’re Perfect)
You heard it here first: Dôen makes denim—and it’s really that good. I opted for the light-wash Diana pair, which features a perfectly straight silhouette—elongating, never too tight, and flattering in all the right places. Inspired by the brand’s early days in sunny California, I styled the jeans with Dôen’s floral-print Hillhock top and Harbour raffia tote. Alongside crisp white poplin and classic stripes, the brand’s delicate, romantic florals are just as central to its ethos. From weekend errands to casual Fridays at the office, a Dôen jean is a non-negotiable in any spring capsule wardrobe—just take it from me.
The Mood Inside
Back to those rustic wood floors, dressing rooms lined in delicate floral carpeting, and a palette of pale blue and emerald green—paired with quietly luxurious velvet ottomans, cabinets filled with antique curiosities, and accents of fringe and crystal pendant lighting. Name a better in-store try-on experience.
