The Inside Scoop on Fall Jewelry

With a fascination with color, mixing the use of eclectic materials and a passion for foreign art, through films, paintings and music, designer and Parsons alum Caroline Pham launched her collectsion of wearable artworks in May 2015. She makes every piece in her Montreal studio incorporating methods like beading and weaving alongside materials like bronze and tassels to form an aesthetic that's both delicate and bold.

HOW DOES YOUR DESIGN MINDSET CHANGE FROM SS TO FW? The mindset does not change so much for me. I have made the strategic decision to only design one collectsion a year. As a small designer it gives me more time to focus on producing a thoughtful and cohesive ensemble of new styles each year.

ANY BIG SEASONAL STYLE CHANGES TO PREPARE FOR? As I value the pace of slow fashion, minimum waste, and local production, I make everything by hand and to order. That way I can offer my buyers and clients custom modifications, such as pick and choosing their own tassel/fringe colors for each style. Working this way allows me to keep a single collectsion throughout the year, while still providing new looks based on palette tastes and seasons.

FALL'S "IT" PIECE? The ‘Tessa’ hoops are definitely a style not to miss. They are currently photographed in cream and forest green, but they have been available in red on Top Quality Replica Hermes Belts lately, and frankly can be done in any colors available in my palette repertoire. After nearly a decade of designing apparel for fashion heavyweights like Calvin Klein, Leigh Miller Newman began to experiment in the jewelry realm and found home. Inspired by naturally-found patterns and forms, the Brooklyn-based designer uses melted wax to cast and hammer a full spectrum of metals into seriously lust-worthy pieces.

HOW DOES YOUR DESIGN MINDSET CHANGE FROM SS TO FW? For spring I generally design lighter, airy-er pieces, the kind of pieces you might like to wear with a sundress. For fall I lean more toward stronger, heavier pieces, items that would look great with a turtleneck or wool coat.

ANY BIG SEASONAL STYLE CHANGES TO PREPARE FOR? I will be pulling out more bold jewelry to wear with my fall wardrobe.

FALL'S "IT" PIECE? I can't believe I am saying this, as I shunned them for a long time but I think brooches are going to be important. They have slowly been coming back for a bit, but they are feeling new again. And, of course, even more statement earrings!

Gittit Szwarc is the designer behind Knobbly, a multidisciplinary studio focusing on jewelry and artist collaborations. Her interest in jewelry focuses on the way it interacts with the human form: the way it will look on the wearer from an angle, how it’ll move when they move, how it relates to the natural lines of their face, collarbone and torso. The outcome: beautiful, one-of-a-kind art.

HOW DOES YOUR DESIGN MINDSET CHANGE FROM SS TO FW? In summer, I think of bare necks — and a large earring that fills that space from chin to shoulder. Winter is about turtlenecks for me, so I would be designing pieces that have more going on near the face and draw the eyes up.

FALL'S "IT" PIECE? I feel like earrings that interface with the ears in new ways are going to be strong in the coming seasons! Think pieces that wrap around in unexpected ways or extend past their expected canvas. They're sort of teetering on the brink between weird and cool right now, which is always a fun and exciting moment.
