Summer Fades to Fall
While we're not ready to let go of summer just yet (or ever), there's no denying that autumn is around the corner. First, though, we have to endure four to six weeks of in-between weather, where one day could be July and the next November. To make dressing for this transitional time even easier, we've curated four key categories filled with fall-ready pieces. Get a head start on next season, below.
Switching to Suede
Nothing says fall like soft suede, but we've seen it creeping around this summer in the form of asymmetrical bucket bags and open-back mules. The transition may have started early, but with temperatures cooling, you're free to warm up your wardrobe with even more suede elements. While we're not quite into boots territory, a suede jacket over a late-summer dress or a pair of suede wedges with jeans totally fits the bill.
Cardi Party
If you work in an office where the A/C is blasting, you may already be familiar with this transitional staple. From slouchy styles to adorable button-downs, cardigans are the easiest way to cozy up to fall's initial arrival. Try to avoid anything too chunky for the time being. Instead, look for light knits to throw over any summer outfit.
All You Need is a Light Jacket
Trenchcoats? For fall? Groundbreaking. The French-girl topper is a timeless go-to for in-between weather. If a trench isn't your style, never fear. Bomber jackets, barn jackets, leather jackets, denim jackets...the world is your oyster (in its own tiny jacket). A few styles to get you started...
Shoe Swap
Sorry, sandals, we'll see you next summer. It's time to add some more substantial shoes to your transitional season style. Loafers, Mary Janes, oxfords, and ballet flats evoke nostalgia as the leaves start to change and are easily styled with skirts, trousers, dresses, and even a late-summer pair of shorts.
