Sisters Sarah Alisdairi Close and Lana Alisdairi opened their airy, light-filled storefront near the Tacoma, WA, waterfront in 2018 with the goal of supporting small, environmentally conscious brands to promote an ethically minded, less-is-more lifestyle. Since then, Cocobolo has become a go-to boutique for all things effortless, stocking chic womenswear (including a handmade in-house line), vintage treasures, unique home goods, beauty finds, and more.

What music are you playing on a typical weekend?
Anything from Hermanos Gutiérrez to the Allah-las.
Tell us about your in-house line. What do you love most about it?
Our in-house line is made in small batches by our co-owner Lana Alisdairi in her studio here in Tacoma. She makes every single piece by hand, down to stitching on the label tags. It is a labor of love for slow fashion. She had been making her own designs for years, however, the Cocobolo in-house line was started in 2018 when we first opened. What we love most about it is that it is an ode to local, sustainable craftsmanship.
What’s important to you when choosing new brands to carry?
We look for brands that are conscious of their impact on the world we live in. A few things we love to see in brands we carry: ethical production, natural fibers, and conscious practices (versus overproduction). Bonus points if a brand is woman/mother-owned. We love to support moms in the biz since we are too!
What are some hidden gems in your neighborhood (other than Cocobolo, of course!)?
Tacoma itself is a hidden gem! Come shop and hang anytime. A few of our favorites: Lander Coffee, Field Bar, Lauda, and The Tacoma Art Museum.
