Jonathan Simkhai Hosted a Spirited Dinner for Pride in Bridgehampton

On Friday evening, Jonathan Simkhai infused a bit of Pride into the manicured setting of Bridgehampton’s Topping Rose House. First, there were tablescapes at dinner, featuring a neat row of flowers and candles encompassing the full spectrum of the rainbow. Then, there was the surprise performance: Drag star Millk delighted guests with a repertoire of show tunes including selections from A Chorus Line. As she danced and wove her way through the room, layers of clothes were shimmied off and the crowd—which included Cynthia Nixon, Richie Shazam, Noor Tagouri, Nina Agdal, Jack Brinkley Cook, Nacho and Delfina Figueras, and Kathryn Gallagher—hooped and hollered.

It was all great fun, but Millk was sure to remind everyone in attendance why Simkhai had gathered them there. “My parents let me be who I was,” Millk said. “That’s not the case for so many other boys and girls.” In addition to celebrating Pride, the dinner supported True Colors United, an organization founded in 2008 by Cyndi Lauper to address the issue of youth homelessness in the United States.

Simkhai also addressed his guests, many of whom wore his gauzy summery frocks or slick, leathery minis. “I'm so happy to be here, I thought this day would never come,” he said, referring to the grim isolation of the last year and half. “But I'm so happy we're all here to celebrate Pride together With True Colors United. I want you to have as much fun as possible. We've waited so long for this moment.”

Over an incredible dinner—Jean-Georges Vongerichten helms the kitchen at Topping Rose—guests did just that. After Millk’s rousing performance, DJ Ruby Aldridge held down the fort with tunes that prompted a mini dance party.
