It’s time to lean into simple pleasures in quarantine right now. For me, I find myself turning to small styling pleasures to start my day on the right foot every morning, like matching my sports bra to my leggings. Normally, I dress from the feet up as footwear has always been a way I set the tone for the day. When I’m tired, I turn to sneakers or ballet flats. A day of big meetings? The right, well-worn, low-heel will get me through a long day and give me the extra posture boost I need. Anyway, as much as I love a cozy slipper or the right WFH slip-on, there isn’t a whole lot of shoe inspiration happening for me right now. Despite the obstacles, though, I am determined to remain well-heeled – just with comfy socks instead of shoes.
So, as I get into my athleisure suit for the day, I focus my attention on finding the perfect pair of comfy socks that complete my look. I have been focusing on mixing colors and patterns that make me happy. Without a commute, I find a bit more time to take printed risks I might not have before. Yes, I know this sounds a bit silly but there is something about perky socks that makes me smile. Whether it’s a pair of fashion socks, from the likes of Gucci, Prada, or Simone Rocha, that infuse a bit of luxury (for WAY less than a pair of shoes from these brands would cost!) or something a bit quirkier – say with an embroidered tiger or printed cherries. I used to wear mismatched boot socks or no-shows, but now I play with printed animals, fruits, tie-dye, and stripes as my socks go from supporting act to main attraction. Plus there are no restrictions on when to wear socks while working from home, no matter how many Zooms you have.
