How else to secure lace to chiffon than with a little electrical tape? Kane’s Spring 2013 collectsion reimagined the household staple as an unexpected detail on dresses and separates. The idea has since become something of a brand signature, reappearing in more recent collectsions in electric hues.
Christopher Kane will present his Fall 2016 collectsion at London Fashion Week tomorrow, and if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that the collectsion will include a variety of unexpected fabrications. Since the Spring 2007 collectsion that put Kane on the map, the designer has made a habit of turning the ordinary, the strange, and the mundane into the extraordinary. He’s embellished everyday denim, turned vinyl into luxe suiting, and has an ongoing fascination with electrical tape and plastic buckles, all of which he combines with lavish materials like fur, leather, and silk. Here, we look back on six of Kane’s most dramatic transformations.
