It was 2005 when Miranda July lit up my radar with her unique combination of artistic expertise via the film she wrote, directed, and starred in, Me and You and Everyone We Know. Her irreverent, kooky style is unique, both in the work she puts out and in her personal look (see her dancing on Instagram). When she isn’t filmmaking or creating art, she is authoring books and being a total fashion muse in the process. Her novel The First Bad Man made our most recent reading list, and her stories in No One Belongs Here More Than You showcase her talent for making the ordinary extraordinary. As for her influence in the fashion world, please direct your attention to the app/art project she collaborated on with Miu Miu. The concept of the app was to send messages to friends in other places by asking a stranger near their geographical location to find and deliver said message in person. An interesting and analog experiment that fits right into the oddly whimsical allure that is Miranda July.
