I’ve always loved color and print, but there was something about the weird, slightly off color combinations on the Spring runways—at Céline and Balenciaga, for example—that really stuck with me. With that in mind, I’m definitely keen to work a bit of acid green, Pepto pink, and lavender into my 2017 wardrobe, maybe even all at once.

One of 2016’s casualties has been my ability to hold back from checking Twitter every five minutes. I am resolved to devote serious time, each and every day, to reading fiction far away from any screens. So let’s hope 2017 brings many a cozy cardigan and fuzzy slipper. And perhaps a new pair of mittens to keep me from pressing refresh.

I live for a one-note, monochromatic look, but my goal for 2017 is to embrace the subtle and sophisticated print-on-print dressing like Victoria Beckham presented for Pre-Fall.

The shearing of my locks in late 2016—the “Trump cut,” if you will—demanded I elevate my look immediately. I realized quickly there was no room for “grungy” days. So I chased up my tomboy uniform with clean lines and silhouettes, striking color-blocking, heels, and a dramatic lip. For the new year, I’d like to keep it up, but invest in conversation-starting jewelry, like Céline’s red varnished petal earrings or Sophie Buhai’s Wilke earrings. I know, I know, it’s trite—a girl with short hair goes for big earrings—but these imaginative pairs are bound to open me up to vast style possibilities.

Never say never! I have sworn off any heel or platform for the longest time, but I just fell in love with these incredible R13 combat boots and haven’t taken them off since! They are rather vertiginous (I’m about 6-foot-3 in them) but very comfortable, and I clomp around like a Clydesdale in them with pride!

My New Year’s fashion resolution is to perfect a radically simplified wardrobe. I want to stop falling for (and spending money on) trends that will look passé in just a few months. I want to establish a work uniform and stick to it. I want to focus on finding high-quality investment staples that I can wear for years. Timeless style is my mantra for 2017.

I’ll be having a baby in March, and after that, I resolve to have a waist again! I’m fantasizing about wearing a pair of high-waisted sailor jeans, over a bodysuit, if at all possible. During pregnancy, I like to wear all-black everything because it makes me feel as not large and as cool as possible. But in 2017, I resolve to cast off The Craft look and wear wild, flying colors. I’m picturing a beautiful bold smoking jacket or a bright red dress à la my soul twin Kate Middleton.

My resolution is to purchase things before I desperately need them. I’m the person who only thinks to buy a winter coat once the temperature is already below freezing, who attempts to wear sweaters in August because she refused to buy summer clothes. The see-now-buy-now concept was invented to cater to people like me, but a little foresight never hurt anyone. In 2017 I want to think—and shop—ahead.

Besides vowing to steer clear of the jeans and comfy sweaters trap I find myself in in the winter, my biggest style resolution is to primarily shop vintage. Not only do I find that I get the most compliments on my vintage pieces, but I gravitate toward them again and again, rather than tiring of them after the season is over. (And, of course, used is usually far less expensive than new and comes with better stories!) Most importantly, though, buying vintage over new garments helps to reduce waste and lessen the impact the fashion industry has on the environment.

My style resolution every year is to spend less! I’ve come to realize, though, it’s almost impossible not to buy anything when you work in this industry and when you really love clothes. So this year, I’m making a resolution not to impulse buy anything full priced. When you are looking at the newest trends every day, surrounded by clothes straight off the runway, you can’t help but want something so, so terribly bad. I’m going to try my hardest not to act on those urges but do all of my shopping at sample sales, vintage fairs like A Current Affair, and my favorites, The RealReal and Vestiaire Collective.

During a Pre-Fall appointment, a designer I’ve known for two years said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a dress!” It’s true—I rarely wear dresses to work, even in the summer. So my New Year’s resolution is to stop buying tops and shoes I don’t need and save my pennies for dresses. I’d love to get a few more from Rebecca Taylor and Ulla Johnson, and this Attico dress is super special.
