Looking Back at Lady Gaga In the Pages of Vogue

Today, Lady Gaga covers Vogue for the fourth time. The Harlequinade homage to Joker: Folie à Deux finds the superstar decked out in sculptural Maison Margiela Artisanal and argyle Dior (and, for the vintage fiends, Givenchy Haute Couture by Alexander McQueen from 1999).

Though she didn’t land her first cover until 2011, the chameleonic singer has transformed herself in the pages of this magazine since December 2009, when she joined forces with Andrew Garfield and Lily Cole for a Hansel and Gretel-inspired spread. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, Gaga emotes from underneath a mop of blonde hair, wearing girlish bloomers and her signature towering platforms.

But she’s also taken the glamorous route. On the cover of the September 2012 issue—Vogue’s 120th anniversary—she donned a fuchsia patchwork mermaid dress, her hair teased up into a halo. Inside the issue, she served as a dutiful (and fabulous) hat model, wearing a black Edwardian Marc Jacobs and posing in nothing but a pink Stephen Jones Millinery ostrich feather and marabou hat.

The last time Gaga covered Vogue was for October 2018, when she celebrated A Star Is Born and 10 years in the music industry. Now, six years later, she returns at last to discuss Joker, LG7, and falling in love.
