Diane von Furstenberg has always been a woman on a mission. Celebrating women, via fashion or not, is at the heart of everything she does. Twelve years ago, she founded an annual ceremony that spotlights female movers and shakers and individuals affecting change who (unlike musicians and actors) certainly don’t have an Academy to honor them. Enter the DVF Awards, which, for the first time, was hosted in Paris this past week in partnership with the Women’s Forum, an international platform dedicated to inclusivity. 

Within the city’s atmospheric Opéra Garnier, DVF was on hand to celebrate, honor, congratulate, and embrace all of this year’s winners—Melinda French Gates, Clarissa Ward (CNN’s chief international correspondent), Wai Wai Nu (founder and executive director of the Women’s Peace Network), Rouba Mhaissen (founder of Sawa for Development and Aid)  and Vanessa Nakate (founder of the Rise up Climate Movement).
