All of the Models Turned Up to Heidi Klum’s Halloween Bash 

Few people take Halloween as seriously as Heidi Klum does, and her 2019 Halloween party and costume did not disappoint. Her annual celebrity-heavy bash in New York City caused a near riot at the entrance as fans and paparazzi clamored to catch a glimpse of her costume. Previous Halloween transformations include Fiona from Shrek and Jessica Rabbit. This year’s look? A biohazardous post-apocalyptic alien cadaver. Resembling an intergalactic mad-science experiment gone awry, there was nothing recognizable about the prosthetic-layered model besides her voice. Husband Tom Kaulitz dressed as her companion: a zombified astronaut. On the inspiration behind the costume, Klum told Vogue, “The inspiration is Tokio Hotel, which is the band of my husband. They believe in aliens!” While the end product was all that partygoers saw, Klum confided that the transformation took a year of planning, more than 12 hours of pre-party costume assembly, and would take an additional two to three hours of post-party removal. With an exposed brain and intestines, a stitched derrière, platform shoes, and a bionic, detached spine, Klum’s masterful Frankenstein-like costume was truly out of this world.

Klum hosted her 20th annual Halloween party, presented by Amazon Prime Video and SVEDKA Vodka, at the newly opened Cathédrale restaurant in the East Village. Through this party, Klum also partnered with UNICEF to help raise money for children in need. Incognito celebrities like Dylan Sprouse, Barbara Palvin, Antoni Porowski, Duckie Thot, Grace Elizabeth, and Constance Jablonski made their way down a flight of stairs lined with cloaked mannequins and frightfully painted models. The party was decked out in haunted house décor, complete with spiders, ghouls, chains, and carved pumpkins. Just beyond the dance floor, where Questlove DJ’d under an Edoardo Tresoldi wire-bird sculpture, guests watched a gruesome exorcism scene where the restaurant’s open kitchen normally lies.

With no trick-or-treaters in sight, Klum’s Halloween festivity was packed with supermodels, designers, and reality TV stars, all of whom knew that a ghost or pumpkin costume simply wouldn’t cut it. Fashionable standouts included Joseph Altuzarra as a leather daddy, Halima Aden as Maleficent, Jonathan Van Ness as a feline, and Maluma as a Dolce & Gabbana Phantom of the Opera. It was a popular night for superheroes too: Taylor Hill as Gamora, Anok Yai as Storm, and The Blonds as Batman and Catwoman.

On what’s to come, Klum told Vogue that she starts 2020 costume planning as soon as she removes her 2019 costume.
