Dada Daily Celebrated the Season at Saks Fifth Avenue

Even in a city as lit up and garlanded as Manhattan, the mood at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship felt especially festive. Power players in the food, fashion, and the art worlds flocked to a shopping event for Dada Daily. The label’s delicious treats, both edible and decorative, were nestled among founder Claire Olshan’s curation of home goods.

The snacks—including sweet potato curls and a nut pack, both holiday exclusives—featured among pieces by L’Objet, Jonathan Adler, and other brands carried by the department store. The display, on view throughout the month, delights with moments of surprise and Surrealism.

Jennifer Fisher, Leandra Medine, Nell Diamond, Rosie Assoulin, and other fabulous guests continued the festivities at Le Chalet, the wood-paneled lounge below L’Avenue. Host to many of 2019’s hottest parties thanks to the likes of Alexander Wang and Gigi Hadid, the eclectic den pulsed with tracks spun by Matthew Mazur.

Art historians argue that, for all its seeming superficiality, decorative art teaches something about the society of its origin. The whimsical collectsion, of course, draws inspiration from the 20th-century art movement that inspired its name. The Tate Museum defines Dada as a “negative reaction to the horrors and folly of war” and “often satirical and nonsensical in nature.” Is there a more apt philosophy—to embrace the playful and exuberant—for the end of 2019?
