The excitement surrounding Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s The Drama—the first of three(!) films that they appear in together this year—has officially reached a fever pitch. (And for good reason: I mean, just take a look at Zendaya’s press-tour style!) So, naturally, we had to catch up with the costars over a round of questions about everything from the zillennial–Gen Z divide to Bluetooth headphones and Cardi B concerts in the latest installment of Off the Cuff.
In terms of future roles, Zendaya would very much like to see Pattinson do a pure comedy—although he argues, not entirely convincingly, that The Drama more or less fits the bill. (“It’s a commercial comedy! It’s fun for the whole family!”) Both actors agree that their meet-cute wasn’t all that cute, actually; they first encountered each other on FaceTime while Pattinson was shooting Batman and Zendaya was shooting Euphoria, with Zendaya recalling: “You were on FaceTime with a friend of ours, and I said hi to you, and you had no reaction.” For what it’s worth, Pattinson doesn’t remember this at all… but now the two are the best of friends, so all’s well that ends well!
If you’ve always wanted to hear Pattinson hum the very well-known theme song to one of his biggest movies, you’re in luck, although we won’t spoil which one it is. Pattinson also insists he’s never lied about anything in his whole life, to which Zendaya responds perfectly: “Well, girl, that’s a lie.” For all the tea on the last time Zendaya got the ick, how Pattinson got in character for his role as Charlie in The Drama, and the importance of talking about pretty much everything before you get married, watch the full video for yourself.
