The chocolate Chanel I didn’t plan to fall for ...
It had been a while since I bought myself a Chanel bag.
Not because I don’t love the house – quite the opposite – but because I’ve become more selective over the years. When you’ve owned classics, you start looking for something that feels slightly unexpected. A familiar silhouette, perhaps, but with a twist.
And then I saw this one.
From the Spring–Summer 2026 Pre-Collection, the Chanel Maxi Flap Bag with Top Handle in goatskin and gold-tone metal immediately caught my attention. I kept scrolling past other pieces, but my eyes kept returning to this bag. And once I saw it in that deep chocolate brown? It was over.

First Impressions: Chocolate Meets Coco
What drew me in instantly was the colour.
This rich, dark brown isn’t just “brown”. It’s warm, almost edible. A true chocolate tone that feels luxurious without trying too hard. Chanel has also released a red-burgundy version, but for me, this shade felt infinitely more wearable – softer, deeper, and easier to integrate into my wardrobe.
Design-wise, it feels like the perfect hybrid between a classic flap and the Coco Handle. You get the elegance of a structured flap, but with the added top handle that gives it presence and practicality. It’s feminine without being overly sweet, structured without feeling rigid.
And I love that balance.

The Design: Structured, Feminine, Versatile
This is not a typical oversized “maxi” in the traditional Chanel sense. The proportions are elongated and slim, which gives it a very modern feel. It sits beautifully under the arm, but thanks to the removable strap, it can also transform completely.
And that’s one of the details I love most.
Remove the strap, and suddenly it becomes a clutch – sleek, polished, almost evening-ready. Leave the strap on, and it works perfectly for day. That duality makes it far more versatile than it appears at first glance.
The goatskin adds softness and subtle texture without overpowering the quilting. It feels luxurious in hand, but not fragile. And paired with gold-tone hardware, the warmth of the chocolate brown becomes even richer.
It’s understated, but far from boring.

Chanel Spring–Summer 2026: What Do We Think?
Chanel’s Spring–Summer 2026 Pre-Collection actually feels fresh – and that’s not something I say lightly.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a truly popular Chanel tote, and this The Large Shopping bag new one looks promising. Personally, I prefer it in the larger size; it feels more intentional, more in line with how I like my bags to function. The Coco Preppy is another standout – cool, slightly nonchalant, very wearable, and surprisingly versatile across its different sizes. The small bowling bag brings a subtle vintage energy with that rounded silhouette we haven’t really seen from Chanel in some time, which makes it feel interesting rather than repetitive. The only piece that didn’t quite resonate with me was the Maxi Hobo. The shape and structure don’t immediately read Chanel to me, though I can absolutely see how that novelty might be appealing to someone looking for something different.
Overall, it’s a beautiful collectsion – cohesive, feminine, and wearable without being predictable. And of course, my favourite ended up being the one I brought home.
It has that classic Chanel DNA – the flap, the quilting, the hardware – yet it doesn’t feel like something I already own. It feels fresh without being trendy. And that’s rare.

It carries the house’s heritage effortlessly, yet still feels new enough to justify the excitement. And sometimes, when a bag feels both classic and fresh at the same time, you simply stop overthinking and say yes.
