A curated March edit of timeless investment pieces and high street finds worth wearing now

If there is one thing I truly have to control myself around at the beginning of March, it’s leather jackets.

I love them. Slightly obsessively.

In fact, the only thing I’ve officially banned myself from buying this spring… is another leather jacket. Which tells you everything you need to know. Do I already own too many? Yes. Do I still have a few hanging in my wardrobe with the tags on because I “haven’t found the right moment”? Also yes.

So this season, I’m trying (emphasis on trying) to enjoy them without adding a new one to the collectsion. But that doesn’t mean I can’t research. Or browse. Or build a proper edit of the best ones currently out there – from serious investment pieces to genuinely great high street finds.

Because if you’re going to buy one, it might as well be the right one.

Let’s get into it.

Classic Leather - The Forever Category

If I had to keep just one jacket in my wardrobe, it would be a classic leather piece. Black is the obvious choice – sharp and grounding – although lately I’ve been wearing deep brown for a softer, more refined feel. I’m drawn to clean leather blazers, slightly oversized 90s cuts and minimal bikers without heavy hardware. Restraint is everything: strong lines, beautiful leather and a shape that works with both tailoring and jeans. A great leather jacket shouldn’t scream; it should anchor the look. Quality truly matters – you can feel it in the weight and movement – but there are beautifully made options at different price points if you know what to look for.

Suede Jackets — The Soft Power Piece

March is suede season. Not quite winter, not fully spring – suede sits perfectly in between.

I gravitate towards chocolate brown, warm caramel, soft taupe. There’s something about suede that feels gentler than classic leather. It doesn’t dominate an outfit; it melts into it. With denim and loafers it looks effortless. With cream tailoring it feels considered and polished.

When I’m looking at suede, I pay attention to structure. Too soft and it can look shapeless. Too stiff and it loses that relaxed elegance. The perfect suede jacket should skim the shoulders and fall cleanly without clinging.

If you’re building a transitional wardrobe, this is probably the easiest entry point.

Spring Leather - Colour & Lighter Cuts

And then… the fun category. Spring leather doesn’t have to be black or brown. I’ve seen the most beautiful cream shades, soft grey, muted olive, even the perfect red. A coloured leather jacket can completely transform the simplest outfit – white T-shirt, straight jeans, flats – suddenly it feels intentional.

For spring, I prefer slightly lighter leather and cleaner cuts. Nothing too heavy. Something that works thrown over your shoulders on a warmer afternoon or layered over a knit when the evenings are still cool.

This is where you can play. Even if the rest of your wardrobe is neutral (mine mostly is), one coloured jacket can feel like a refresh without buying an entirely new wardrobe.

Designer Leather Jackets Under €1,000

designer leather jackets under €1,000 right now. Brands like The Frankie Shop and Róhe do this category particularly well – clean silhouettes, strong shoulders and that quiet, modern minimalism I’m always drawn to. At this price point, you often get noticeably better leather quality and sharper tailoring, without entering the very high luxury range. I look for rich, wearable tones and minimal hardware so the piece feels timeless rather than trend-led. It’s a smart middle ground: investment-worthy, but still realistic.

Affordable Leather — Smart, Polished, On Budget

Let’s talk about affordable leather, because some brands are doing it exceptionally well this season. I always check COS and Massimo Dutti first – their cuts tend to be clean, minimal and very wearable. I’ve seen beautiful leather blazers, understated bikers and suede pieces in rich brown tones that genuinely look far more expensive than they are.

With high street leather, it’s all about silhouette and finish. I pay attention to how it sits on the shoulders, how the leather moves and whether the hardware feels refined rather than overly shiny. If those elements are right, you really don’t need to overspend to achieve that timeless, polished effect.

Sometimes it’s less about price and more about choosing wisely.

Leather jackets will always have a place in my wardrobe, no matter the season. March just happens to be when they make the most sense — practical, effortless and instantly transformative. Whether you invest in a forever piece or find a brilliant high street option, the right one will work harder than almost anything else you own. As for me, I’ll be wearing the ones I already have… and trying very hard not to add another.
