Katherine Barieau Biography
Born in Baltimore and raised in Massachusetts, Katherine Barieau was an Abstract Expressionist painter lauded for lyrical, ethereal vernacular. After receiving her Master of Fine Art from the University of California, Berkeley in 1953, she went on to share a studio with Richard Diebenkorn and Paul Wonner in the San Francisco Bay Area. Characterized by spectral, atmospheric veils of pigment, her work would shape a unique brand of abstraction on the West Coast.
